Pianola was the trade name used by the Aeolian/Orchestrelle Company for their brands of player piano. The instruments were manufactured in USA, UK, and Germany

The pianos brand names made by Aeolian included Steinway, Weber, Steck, Stroud etc, all excellent quality instruments.

The term Pianola has over the years become the generic name for player pianos.
The player piano is a self-playing piano, (also a first class piano that can be played manually like any other) containing a pneumatic mechanism that plays on the piano action via perforated paper piano rolls. The rise of the player piano grew with the rise of the mass-produced piano in the house and the sheet music industry explosion of the late 19th and early 20th century.

Many of the piano rolls are authorised copies of actual piano artists, including Gershwin, Paderewski, Scot Joplin and many Jazz pianists. The piano rolls are still manufactured today offering a mix of music from classical - rock & pop, Abba, Beatles, Elvis Elton John etc to-jazz & swing- all the modern shows i.e. Andrew Lloyd Weber's Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserable by Mackintosh.

The Aeolian brands are the true Pianola, offering both themodising and metrostyle player systems.

New Instruction

Steck-Aeolian Boudoir grand Pianola with 65/88 note dual playing action.

Price. £800.00 including approx.120 piano rolls.

This is very interesting Steck-Aeolian Boudoir grand Pianola. It has a dual playing action that enables the piano to play 65 note or 88 note full scale piano rolls. This dual system is I understand quite uncommon to be found in grand Pianola’s.

The instrument was manufactured by the Aeolian Company, forerunners in player piano industry.

Their trade mark “Pianola” is now used as the generic name for most player pianos.

The piano manufactured c1920.

The 65/88 note Pianola action provides full control of the piano roll. It is simple to change from one type of roll to the other, just by moving a lever.

There is a Metrostyle needle to follow the tempo, also themodising levers to give expression to the music. Other controls include sustaining ( loud pedal) lever in the on position for automatic sustain via the piano rolls or off for use with manual control levers.

This 65/88 note player action will play all the early style 65 note piano rolls and the later 88 note piano plus all the modern rock, pop tunes. (See: general notes below regarding piano rolls.)

The dimension of the piano are: Length 59 inches, Width 68 inches, Height 40 inches.

The piano has a dark mahogany veneered case.

It has been in the same family for two generation. Some work has been carried out over the past ten years and it was played regularly and tuned occasionally.

As you would expect from a Boudoir grand it has a very good sound.

.

The instrument is located:  Somerset, England. UK.

The buyer is responsible at his cost to arrange professional piano removal.

If preferred we can recommend a piano mover.

We can also offer to service the Pianola once it is in its new home.

The price is £800.00 to include approx.120 piano rolls.
